Our Ethos

For many years we have run educational visits in the farm for all ages of children. We are very passionate about sharing this amazing environment with the next generation.

The 60 place nursery is for children aged between 3 months and 5 years and is open Monday - Friday for 51 weeks of the year. Our opening hours are 7.30am - 6.00pm.

The nursery is purpose-built to allow children to be at one with nature and the outdoors. The nursery has three rooms, each catering for different age groups. All of these rooms lead out to a large private, secure outdoor play area so children can choose where they want to play and therefore learn all year round. There is a large canopy that ensures that children can play outside in all weathers and we also provide wet weather clothing so the children can play happily in the rain or snow, as they wish.

We also have a huge field just beyond the children’s garden where the children tend their fruit and vegetables in the raised beds, care for the nursery chickens and enjoy endless forest school activities.

There are other animals on the farm, including the nursery pygmy goats and the children are involved in their care and help with their daily routine. This care for nature and animals is absolutely core to our ethos of a loving, nurturing environment where the children in our care can flourish.

The children regularly walk around the farm so they can enjoy, and learn about the seasonal changes of the farm, both crops and wildlife, and purely enjoy the space and fresh air that we have to offer. We have quad cross country buggies so even the smallest of our children can see this on this on the farm. Take a look at our On the farm page to see more about this.

Come Visit Us

We strongly believe in play based learning. We provide an environment, everyday, where children can develop through play.

We know each child as the individual that they are and through this we set up activities to progress their development. We do not pressurise the children, rather we provide a fun stimulating environment where a love for learning is developed.

Our Pre-School. Our Family. Our Community

To share a child’s development and daily diary with parents we use an app called Parentzone. This means that parents can see photos and videos of their children through the day, receive learning records, meal updates and any other information.

We know that our members of staff are the most important part of the nursery. We have a wonderful, diverse team who truly care about early years and provide a caring and inspiring teaching and learning environment for all the children in our care.

At Molescroft Farm we fully understand that choosing the right childcare for your child is a daunting experience but rest assured that the needs of your child are always our top priority.

What We Do

Environment

We are always trying to find ways to be as environmentally friendly as possible with reduce, re-use and recycling being at the heart of our nursery ethos, whether it be through using as little plastic as possible or using recycled natural product all through the nursery. You can see more about how we implement this on our Community page.

Food

Our nursery cook prepares amazing nutritious meals for the children every day on site. None of the food that we serve is processed, and sugar and salt are not added. We don’t serve puddings, rather a seasonal variety of fruit salads, smoothies and lassis. Snacks are savoury to avoid sugar sitting on the children’s teeth. Food is sourced locally where possible and from our own raised beds. See Sample Menu.

Play

We strongly believe in play based learning. We provide an environment, everyday where children can develop through play. We know each child as the individual that they are and through this we set up activities to progress their development. We do not pressurise the children, rather we provide a fun stimulating environment where a love for learning is developed.

Learning

We have many extra lessons, which the children love taking part in, from French, science, gardening club and music. We have educational visits up to Frith Farm, which is a veg box scheme which runs only a couple of field away on the farm.

Outdoor learning is fun!

Our beautiful ‘Field Bubble’

Two weeks in and our small ‘bubble’ of Pre-schoolers are still absolutely loving their adventures out in the fresh air everyday. What a way to learn!

These children are preparing for the transition up to school perfectly after many of them missed valuable nursery time due to lockdown when we were only open to key workers children and vulnerable children.

Thank you so much to Coopers Marquees who have made this possible by supplying such an amazing tent 🥰

“Earth and sky, woods and fields, lakes and rivers, the mountain and the sea, are excellent schoolmasters, and teach of us more than we can ever learn from books.”
John Lubbock

“Nature breeds curiosity; it helps to grow explorers rather than robots. It reminds us that we are part of something bigger. It grounds us, calms us.”
Ben Palmer-Fry

A Childs time and pressure in the classroom is long enough without starting it in Early Years, the outdoors is our classroom. Direct contact with nature has direct benefits for children’s physical, mental and emotional health.

Let your children be little, let your children be wild and free, let you children learn through nature, natural resources and open ended play. Build their resilience and nurture their mental health.

One of the great pleasures of working in Early Years is seeing children start to develop friendships and seeing the pleasure these friendship give to the children

These skills learnt at such a young age are the basis of so much of our happiness in later life, where would we be without our friends?
