On The Farm

About Molescroft Farm

The farm has 10% of the land managed primarily for wildlife and the environment which makes it an especially good place for children to explore.

Much of the electricity used on the farm, offices and nursery is produced by the 190kW solar panels on the farm. The heating is provided by a 199kW biomass boiler which used locally sourced wood from sustainably managed woodland.

The chickens

Our Araucana chickens Terry, Buttons, Sky, Rainbow and Rhubarb.

The chickens have now started to lay eggs which is very exciting for the children as we can now collect these from chicken coop daily!

Goats and Shetland pony

We have three pygmy goats, DiggaDigga, Gary and Barry!

Pollyanna is our wonderful Shetland Pony!

We also have a 70 place community allotment which is run as a not-for-profit business.

Community

Frith farm and allotments

With our passion of encouraging children to form meaningful connections with the world in which they live, our community is at our core centre. We want children to feel involved in this, be able to contribute to society and have a sense of belonging and being at home both in and around the nursery and farm.

Therefore, we also have a 70-place community allotment which is run as not-for-profit business and also Frith Farm. Frith Farm is on site and their aim is to provide local people with quality food and improve the way in which food is produced and distributed. Frith places a major focus on quality: combining chemical free, fresh produce with sustainable production and distribution methods. All of which we think are great principles and attitudes which our children encounter regularly.

Forest school

As part of our inclusive extended curriculum, the Pre-School children have the opportunity to participate in ‘Forest School’ sessions. This takes place on site in our small private wooded area, Hobby Wood. Whilst children do have the opportunity to practice and perfect their gross motor skills in climbing and fine motor skills through the safe use of tools. Forest School is much more about the journey, and this coincides with our everyday ethos and beliefs…During the sessions which are led by fully qualified Level 3 Forest School Leaders the children are able to take some time away to become lost in the depths of the magic of imaginative play through building dens and fairy houses, listening walks and focusing on their well-being in nature. Once the programme is complete hopefully children will use skills they have learnt during this time for life. Allowing them to further build upon a feeling of serenity and calm alongside self-belief and resilience when in the great outdoors. But above anything, children will experience fire building and enjoying tasty smores and whilst we can’t say they’ll remember everything as they grow up into the strong, independent people they’re destined to be, I’m sure this will be something they do look back on and remember!
